Know the best browser safe colors

The concept of browser safe colors came into existence in and around 1995 to 1996 when the computers are commonly found with the video graphics support of 256 color mode or what it is technically said as 8-bit color display capacity of the monitors. Up to this nothing is special but when it comes to display web pages through different browsers and operating systems, things go little odd! Now what is that "odd" to find? Actually it is nothing but dithered color display of any webpage. A web page may be designed following a particular color palette combination but with the difference of operating systems, the colors get illegible or view of the pages get distorted.

Here may be the questions: why these things happen? Has it got any solution? Still it occurs? There may be a single answer to all these questions – if any webpage is designed with browser safe colors no problem is going to occur and today the computers come with 32bits and 64bits display option and monitors can show million of colors for sure.

So still is it valid to think about the browser safe colors in designing the webpage? Yes there are some issues which still we must take care of in webpage designing. Actually at infowaylive, the best web design company and PHP developer India, we do like to remain safe in designing. It is because at large the basic thing has remained same – irrespective of operating systems, display methods, the 216 colors are common and browser safe colors. We design the pages following these color palettes and there is no problem at all.

However you must be thinking why use browser safe colors or why only 216 colors out of 256 is problem free to use. Again you may be thinking in what situations the use of safe colors comes! Let's have a very short try to make things understandable to you.
  • In case of Mac and windows operating systems the color acceptance is not the same. I am talking about 8bit computing system which is still in existence and today also the operating systems differently display 40 colors out of 256. So it is always safe to use the common 216 browser safe colors that will not dither by any means.
  • The basic color scheme supported by the display systems (monitors) are Red, Green, and Blue (RGB). There is no problem in display of the colors mathematically created from the codes of these colors. The Hexadecimal code of RGB colors are #FF0000, #00C000, #0000FF and only 216 browser safe colors or color palettes that derived out of these values are supported and neatly displayed by any media. So webpage designed with these colors can be shown as it is in all the browser types.
  • The color of text content against the background color of a webpage has to be in browser safe colors or take risk of unintended result or display. Actually you can not simply think about what the webpage look like on your computer, you have to think of other computers. When your desire is to pursue your viewers to read your webpage content never take chance to show distorted colors to them for any reason (their display problem, low configured machines etc.).
  • When a web page is with lot many graphics in use, always use browser safe colors to design the pages with. Browser safe colors are always found useful for flat-color graphical illustrations, logos and areas in any image that have a lot of a single color in use. It helps in protecting the graphics against the dithering effects.
  • There are many cases when the images are of art work coming as scanned photographs in JPEG and GIF format. When the webpage has to be designed with these images in GIF format problems come with 8bit display systems. The images are shown little bit distorted and the value of the images goes down to the users. It is always safe to design with JPEG format that is well supported by any system irrespective of situation arising related to use of browser safe colors.
Anyways the above five points are the five aspects of using browser safe colors in webpage designing. There should not be any doubt that the purpose of website is to show everything in clear view. There can never be any chance to irritate the users with any dithered images or texts. Basically the world audiences are going to view your pages and there are always chance that color display problem comes up. So thinking for all those people, design the web pages with browser safe colors. Finally one day is surely coming when all the computers in every corner of the world will be in high configuration and we would not mind to design webpage with any color combination we desire to.
